engagement

The first time Soraia and I talked on the phone, I didn’t expect to talk to her for over an hour about everything from our obsession with Pinterest to her love for all things Tiffany blue. She educated me on the most important parts of a Middle Eastern engagement ceremony and told me how she met Ali…and in between, we laughed hysterically about that Kim Kardashian/Shamu meme. When we hung up, Chris said it was like I was talking to an old friend, rather than someone I had met (via text!) a couple of days before. What can I say, there are just some people you connect with like that! :)

In their culture, Soraia and Ali weren’t considered engaged until this very ceremony– someone from both sides stands up and states their intentions, then the ring is presented to the fiancee-to-be (yes, in front of everyone!!). It was such an honor to witness something that usually only family and close friends get to see, and an even greater honor that Soraia and Ali chose us to capture their ceremony.

Soraia and Ali, congratulations! We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you both!

The ahhh-mazing dessert table styled by Carol at Petite Pomme Design, with goodies baked by Kitty Wong Pastry Shop, in all its Tiffany blue glory!

Here comes the ring…

I think Soraia is pleased :) Ali did a GREAT job…the ring is gorgeous!

Afterwards, Ali’s family gave Soraia jewelry to welcome her to the family. Love the look on Ali’s dad’s face here…

…and Ali’s reaction to his dad putting a ring on his new fiancee!

Hugs from her mom…

Christine and Christian’s engagement session in Las Vegas was a ton of fun– I have a newfound respect for pet photographers after shooting Kenji and Mochi with the humans! Kenji is a big, furry ball of fun and energy, and all he wanted to do was get off the leash and run around. Mochi is usually a little more hyper, but she had just gotten a procedure done at the vet so she was a bit subdued. Nevertheless, we managed to get them looking at us a few times, so I’d call that a success! :)

We shot around the neighborhood before moving on to UNLV. The light was perfect and there were very few people passing through.

Kenji looks totally calm, huh? Don’t be fooled– he managed to bust out of his collar and take off down the path before anyone could stop him (more on that in a future post). We couldn’t stop laughing!

A little note about these first few UNLV photos: even though Christine and Christian went to the same high school and university (even the same college), they didn’t find each other until after graduation. Seems like they kept missing each other around campus! ;)

Happy Monday!
