Baby Evelyn: sneak peek

May 7, 2012

Posted in families

Despite the thunderstorm that came out of nowhere on Friday night/Saturday morning, we were able to meet up with Lisa, Ryan, and baby Evelyn at Washington Square West. The skies were cloudy (my favorite!), providing some gorgeous light with soft shadows. Here’s a little preview of their session:

Happy Monday!

This (cold, foggy, rainy) weekend, Chris and I made our way up to Newport, RI. We figured that since we went to college in the Newport Beach, CA, area, we should visit its east coast counterpart. Even with the crappy weather, it was a great place to visit.

One of the highlights of our visit, aside from staying at a great B&B, was meeting up with Kerri, her husband Chris, and THEEE cutest little birdy ever, BSparl. (Side note: because of Kerri and Chris’ prominence in their respective careers, they’ve decided to keep their daughter’s name off the interwebz. You can read more here.)

Poor kid was a little confused when we first met up, because there’s her daddy named Chris, and then there’s my Chris. Kerri was teaching her our names, so when she first saw us, she looked at [my] Chris and said, “Daddy!” LOL We dubbed him “Bonus Chris” for the rest of the afternoon, and she had quite the crush on him. :)

Kerri is a diabetes blogger, one of the first I found a few years ago. Since then, I’ve been able to meet her on a number of occasions, and Chris and I are lucky to call her a friend. Spending the afternoon with their family was so much fun, and we got some great photos of BSparl running around and having a blast! Here’s a little preview of their session. Isn’t she beautiful?!

I’m glad we were able to spend some down time this weekend– I start physical therapy this week for a suspected torn rotator cuff. Which, ironically, doesn’t hurt even when I’m taking photos. ;)

Happy Monday everyone!

Recently I found out that if you want to go into labor early, book a maternity session with me ;) I think I’m 3 for 3…I haven’t officially photographed a pregnant belly since late 2008.

Dana originally scheduled a maternity session for her and her husband Aaron, but Aria decided she wanted to be in the photos too. She was born three weeks early, stunning the world with her beautiful blue eyes (and making her daddy completely smitten with her). I spent a couple of hours with them and totally felt the love they have for their little girl.

The famous “heart butt” pants :)

The pic on the right: zzzzzz! I love it when babies fall asleep as they’re eating, haha.

The pic on the left cracks me up! (Btw, how gorgeous is Dana?!)

So. Much. LOVE.

Babies’ facial expressions = priceless.

Happy little family <3

So lemme tell you about Aria’s nursery…Dana and Aaron did an AMAZING job of decorating it! The theme was safari animals, with a special emphasis on giraffes. (Um, I’m not too old for a room like this, am I?!)

The well on the left side was handmade by Aaron’s parents. Originally it was filled with books, but it may be full of toys very soon :)

Dana and Aaron– thanks so much for having me in your home to capture a day in your life with your new bundle of joy! Aria is incredibly lucky to have such loving parents like you two!

Bim (and Andy’s) baby shower

October 2, 2011

Posted in families

You may remember Bim and Andy from their shoot in Paris…now they’re about to have a baby girl named Alice!

Bim’s family hosted a baby shower in her honor (Andy was there in spirit, since he’s in California), and I LOOOOOVED all the colors they used to go with the “POP” theme! Bim didn’t want the usual pink-themed baby shower, so she chose a great selection of bright colors that made everything look great.

Bim made the cake pops– strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting. Yum!

One of my favorite parts was the wishing tree for baby Alice.

A couple of the games: Bim had to race the newest mom to see who could put a cloth diaper on a balloon the fastest. Another game was to make a baby out of a piece of paper (which I couldn’t even conceptualize, let alone execute). The person who won made her cutout with pigtails! :D

Congrats Bim and Andy! Can’t wait to meet baby Alice next month!

Shower for Baby B!

March 20, 2011

Posted in families

This is the first baby shower we’ve shot since Charlotte & Mike’s baby shower back in 2008, and it just happens to be for Charlotte’s sister Jenn and her husband. :) They are having a baby girl (due in mid-May), so her theme was a nice pink and green.

(Side note: when people ask how we’re related, I say “Jenn is Chris’ cousin’s wife’s sister.” If you’re Filipino, you know the shortcut for this is “cousin.” ;))

I commissioned my friend Steph, who is an awesome baker, to make cake pops for the shower: baby heads with vanilla cake and colored pops with red velvet cake. The red velvet ones were GONE .

Jenn’s friends are also very talented bakers: one made batches of red velvet and pumpkin cupcakes, and another friend made a beautiful (and yummy!) red velvet cake.

The table of homemade sweets:

Aside from the massive amounts of savory Filipino foods and the cake table, there was also a fountain of chocolate! Adults and children alike loved this.

Fred’s thank you speech was pretty epic. After he thanked everyone for coming, he said, “I would also like to thank my mom for creating me…so I could create that!” and pointed to Jenn’s baby bump. The room erupted in laughter and cheers, haha!

Time to cut the cake!

I love this pic Chris got of little Makenzie eyeing the various sweets on the table :)

Afterwards, they opened presents for Baby B. Since Jenn and Fred live in Chicago, most people sent stuff to their home. Here is cousin Jake helping out:

Congrats, Jenn and Fred! I can’t wait to visit Chicago and meet Baby B! :)

Mamikonyan family session

December 22, 2010

This past weekend, I headed out to Gina’s house to photograph her and her family. I had a great time seeing Sophia (who has warmed up to me and is a total ham once she hears the shutter clicking away) and meeting Gina’s husband Ernie and their gentle giant Ramses.

Gina had the house all decked out in Christmas decor, and she even bought Santa hats (for the humans) and reindeer antlers (for the canine). It was hilarious watching Ramses wrestle the Santa hat away from Sophia!

Gina and Ernie decided to give Sophia her Christmas presents on Saturday so we could have props for the shoot. ;)

Ernie is a PhD candidate in Physics (!!!) so Gina had him teach them about astronomy. And the book is updated, so Pluto is left out. Sorry Pluto!

And there was also Smooch Your Pooch! Sophia obliged. :)

Daddy and daughter dance– this is going to be a couple of the photos shown at Sophia’s wedding 20+ years from now, right Gina? *wink wink nudge nudge*

I’ll end with my absoluuuuute favorite photos from the entire session– Sophia and Ramses.

“What’s that, Mom? Hug Ramses? Okay!”

This one cracks me up. They look like two kids who got in trouble.

Truth be told, I was totally INTIMIDATED by how big Ramses was. I’m so used to Juno, who is like 25 pounds and stick skinny (not to mention she doesn’t bark). When I saw Ramses run out of the house, I had a mini panic attack– one wrong move and I’d be toast! If you haven’t already, go read Bobby Earle’s blog post on how his dogs (a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler) act around his newborn son– I was able to witness firsthand how gentle a “big and dangerous” dog could be with a small child. Don’t let the fact that he’s 100 pounds fool you– he’s one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever come across. Gina tells me that he’s VERY protective of the family, especially Sophia. Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to get in the way of Ramses protecting his family. :)

Hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did! To see more photos from their family shoot, click here for a slideshow!

…when you have a toddler feeding a treat to a three year old, 100-pound German Shepherd? A hella cute picture, that’s what!

This is Sophia with Ramses, who is the fourth name on their holiday card. :)

And here’s the whole fam!

Stay tuned for a larger post on their session!
